Surat, the commercial capital of State of Gujarat, is one of the fastest growing cities in India. By 2020 it is estimated that Surat will be the largest city in Gujarat. The city has been ranked 36th in the list of the world’s largest cities, and is the 9th largest city in India. Surat is the textile capital of India and the diamond capital of the world. 92% of the world’s diamonds are cut and polished in Surat.

Surat metropolitan region is widely regarded as one of the cleanest metropolitan regions in the country, with the city being classified as the third cleanest city in India.

Surat has a tropical monsoon climate, moderated strongly by the Arabian Sea. The summer begins in early March and lasts till June with an average temperature of about 30 degree centigrade. The monsoons start from June to ends in September with the temperature averaging at 28 degree centigrade.
